Welcome to Denby Dale Athletics Club

The club is based at the Pie Hall in the West Yorkshire village of Denby Dale with training nights for adults aged 16 and upwards on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7pm. There are groups for all abilities, so if you are interested in running, either competitively or just to keep fit, why not pop down one evening. We would be very pleased to see you!

Launched in April 2015, the club also has a Junior Section based at Shelley College for children aged 8 to 18. Currently around 50 juniors attend training sessions on Wednesday evenings based around the key skills of running, jumping and throwing. Sessions are suitable for novices as well as more experienced junior athletes. Further details are available on the Junior pages of the website here.

Club members of all ages also participate in a wide range of events throughout the course of the year, details of which can be found on the relevant website pages.

COVID-19

In accordance with the UK Government's roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions and recent England Athletics guidance, Tuesday night club runs WILL resume on 30th March. The same procedures will apply as before, adhering to social distancing and running in groups of 6. Please come ready to run as we will not have access to the Pie Hall.

Virtual Road Championship 2020/21

Following a similar format to the successful 'virtual' trail championship, the 'virtual' road championship comprises 6 race routes, with a 2 week window to complete each route. Further details & route maps may be found on the Road Running page.

Lockdown rule change

Due to the requirement to 'stay local' during the current lockdown, the time window to complete races 5 & 6 has been extended until Sat 24th April, giving participants 4 weeks from easing of travel restrictions to complete the last 2 races. During this period, participants may also submit a time for ONE race they missed or a new time for a race they previously completed. All race evidence must be submitted by 8pm on Sat 24th April

Senior club championships

Details of the 2020 championships, including the new trail championship can be found on the individual road, fell and trail pages via the 'Club Championships' drop-down on the menu bar. League tables for each championship can be found at the top of each championship page.

The 2021 championships will be announced once there is a clearer picture about COVID-19 and its impact on race organisation and travel restrictions.

Dates for your diary 2021

Barnsley Boundary Relay - Sat 19th June 2021

The BBR has been run for over 25 years between local running clubs. COVID-19 necessitated that the 2020 edition was a 'virtual' event, but Penistone Footpath Runners who organise the relay are hopeful that the real event will return this year. The BBR is a 10-stage off-road relay on tracks and footpaths around Barnsley District with one runner per leg or you can run as a pair if you prefer. For information about the route and GPS files to download, see Event website. If you would like to run, please contact club captains Phil Ellis or Katie Sharp

Calderdale Way Relay – Sun 26th Sept 2021

This is one of the highlights of the Club year. The race is a team relay run on tracks and footpaths around the perimeter of Calderdale, with 12 runners per team running in pairs. The 6 stages are as follows:

  • Leg1 - West Vale to Cragg Vale, Hinchcliffe Arms (10.55m)

  • Leg 2 - Cragg Vale to Todmorden, Centre Vale Park (8.46m)

  • Leg 3 - Todmorden to Blackshaw Head  (4.80m)

  • Leg 4 - Blackshaw Head to Wainstalls (9.36m)

  • Leg 5 - Wainstalls to Bridle Stile Road, Shelf (7.55m)

  • Leg 6 - Shelf to Clay House Park, West Vale (10.50m)

Further details, including routes, can be found on the Halifax Harriers website, who organise the event. Our club team entries have been carried over from 2020 but team members are still to be decided. Please contact our team organiser Ralph Barker if you would like to take part or have any questions.
