Welcome to Denby Dale Athletics Club


The club is based at the Pie Hall in the West Yorkshire village of Denby Dale with training nights for adults aged 16 and upwards on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7pm. There are groups for all abilities, so if you are interested in running, either competitively or just to keep fit, why not pop down one evening. We would be very pleased to see you! 


Launched in April 2015, the club also has a Junior Section based at Shelley College for children aged 8 to 18. Currently around 60 juniors attend training sessions on Wednesday evenings based around the key skills of running, jumping and throwing. Sessions are suitable for novices as well as more experienced junior athletes. Further details are available on the Junior pages of the website here.


Club members of all ages also participate in a wide range of events throughout the course of the year, details of which can be found on the relevant website pages.

Volunteers required for marshalling, time-keeping, sandwich making and raffle ticket selling etc - please contact Ross McClelland, Race Organiser, if you can help.


Cross Country Events 2020

It’s time to put some dates in the diary for events early next year :

  • Yorkshire Championships – Sat 4th January at Lightwater Valley, nr Ripon. Entry fee £7. Event information. Seniors need to let captains know by 26th November if they would like to be included in the team.  

  • Northern Championships – Sat 25th January at Camp Hill Estate,  Bedale, Details awaited. 

  • National Championships – Sat 22nd February at Wollaton Park, Nottingham. Details awaited.

Senior Parkrun Challenge 2019/20

The 2019/20 parkrun challenge organised by Rosalind Bedford will take us to yet more local parkruns. 


  • 19th October  - Frickley Country Park (South Elmsall)

  • 16th November - Storthes Hall - re-arranged date

  • 30th November - Temple Newsam

  • 21st December - Penistone

  • 11th January - Oakwell Hall

  • 1st February - Hillsborough

  • 22nd February - Middleton Woods

  • 14th March - Clumber Park


In line with the parkrun ethos, the challenge is for runners of all abilities & there is a lovely trophy for the winner. So please put the dates in your diary and become a DDAC parkrun tourist!

West Yorkshire Cross Country League 2019

As usual the cross country season starts with the WYXC League - a series of 4 races in parks across West Yorkshire :

  • Race 1: Sat 5th Oct - Keighley - Results

  • Race 2: Sun 27th October - Nunroyd Park, Leeds - Results        

  • Race 3: Sun 17th Nov - West Park, Leeds                    

  • Race 4: Sun 8th Dec - Spenborough     

The ladies race is normally over a distance of ~5k starting at 1.45pm, with the men’s race over ~9k at 2.15. There are also junior races earlier in the day over shorter distances.

Individual championships are decided on your best 3 races in the series, with the team competition decided over all 4 races. The senior men’s competition is teams of 6, with the senior ladies teams of 4.

Senior entry fee for the series of 4 races is £20.

Friday speed training

Friday evening speed training for both Juniors & Seniors take place on the top field at Shelley College playing fields from 6 - 7pm. Sessions are free and are designed to improve speed and stamina. 

A new list of dates will be available soon. 


Senior membership subs (Apr'19 - Mar'20)

Annual membership subs (£20) are now over due and can be paid by bank transfer to the senior club account (contact Jon for details) or in cash to Jon O'Hanlon (Senior section - Treasurer) on Club nights at the Pie Hall. Please note there are separate accounts for junior and senior sections of the club.

Thursday Evening Club Sessions for Seniors


Thursday evening sessions focus on building speed and stamina working as a group. Runners of all abilities are very much welcome. 


These sessions are great for improving general fitness and preparing for races. Why not come along and give it a try! Thursdays at 7pm from the Pie Hall.
