Road Running

Club members compete in many local road races and we also organise the Travellers 6 Road Race which (in a normal year) takes place just before Christmas with runners from Clubs throughout the region taking part.

Virtual Road Championship 2020

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic and following the success of the virtual trail championship, the club leadership team has devised a ‘virtual road championship’ of 6 races to take place over the autumn months.

Based on local race routes (both recent and from the mists of time), each 'race' should be completed in the allotted 2 week window with proof of time & route taken (in the form of Strava link or something similar) to be submitted to Anne Middleton by end of play on the last date of each race.

To reduce unnecessary travelling, the route can be started at any point on the course as long as the start and finish are the same points. All routes should be run in an anti-clockwise direction. If you are unsure of the route, groups of up to 6 can run together, subject to social distancing. Runners should take extra care on roads with no pavements, wear bright clothing and run facing the on-coming traffic.

Scoring for the virtual championship will be based on WAVA % scores which take account of age, sex and distance as well as your race time. The WAVA scores will be added up over the 6 races. More information on WAVA can be found here.

In addition to the overall men’s and ladies championships trophies, there are also vets (over 40) and supervets (over 50) categories for both men and women.

* Lockdown rule change

Due to the requirement to 'stay local' during the current lockdown, the time window to complete races 5 & 6 has been extended until Sat 24th April, giving participants 4 weeks from easing of travel restrictions to complete the last 2 races. During this period, participants may also submit a time for ONE race they missed or a new time for a race they previously completed. All race evidence must be submitted by 8pm on Sat 24th April
